EV stands for electric vehicle and they operate using a battery-powered electric motor drive system 100% of the time. These vehicles don't use a combustion engine and have no fuel tank and no engine oil to change.
EVs are recharged by plugging into a power outlet or at a charging station which replenishes the battery.
PHEV stands for plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, commonly known as plugin hybrids. A PHEV can operate on its battery alone without using fuel for limited kilometres then revert to hybrid operation using fuel or self-generated electricity to continue driving.
